Box Score

Waukesha, Wis.- The University of Dubuque went on the road to Carroll University and came out with a 12-7 win behind seven combined goals from Claire Carlson and Robyn Wittkopf.

UD scored three goals in 1:38 timespan in the fourth and fifth minutes to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Robyn Wittkopf had two of those goals and four on the night to give her 11 goals in the last two games.

Every time Carroll scored, the Spartans always had an answer with a goal of their own soon after, not allowing the Pioneers to gain much momentum. With just under a minute remaining in the first half, Jenna Runde scored her first goal of the season and of her career to give the Spartans an 8-3 lead heading into the break and the Pioneers would not get any closer for the rest of the game.

Seven different Spartans recorded a goal on Saturday afternoon, five of them with just one goal apiece. UD moved the ball around effectively throughout the night, coming up with six assists on the 12 goals.

The Spartan defense was once again solid, allowing just seven goals and 13 shots on goal. The defense harassed the Pioneers offense all night, forcing them into 33 turnovers in the game. Kyra Nelson started in net once again and recorded six saves in the win.

UD converted on their only extra man opportunity of the night with a Sara Rose goal in the second half, while stopping the Pioneers on their lone extra man opportunity.

UD returns to the field on Wednesday night as they host Augustana College at 5:00 p.m. in the first game of the women’s and men’s doubleheader.
