Women's Lacrosse Close Season With Win At Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. – On the final day of the regular season, the University of Dubuque women’s lacrosse team closed out their season with an 11-6 win over Elmhurst College.

After falling behind 3-1 in the first 20 minutes of action, the Spartans rallied in the final five minutes of the first half. Claire Carlson scored her 51st goal of the season with 4:50 before half to cut the deficit to 3-2. Breann Tjaarda evened things up with 1:08 left before half on an unassisted goal before giving the Spartans a lead with 24 second before the break.

Elmhurst scored the first goal of the second half to tie the game at four, but from that point on the Spartans were in control, scoring seven of the final nine goals of the game. Breann Tjaarda completed the hat trick as she scored in the fifth minute of the second half and gave UD the lead for good.

In the final game of her UD career, Robyn Wittkopf totaled five points in the game, with one goal and assisting on four others, including on three of Tjaarda’s four goals. Claire Carlson closed out her stellar freshman campaign with four goals of her own to finish with 53 on the year. Kyra Nelson got her fourth win of the season and collected six saves in the process.

UD closes the year with a 9-8 record overall and 2-4 in the CCIW.
