DUBUQUE, Iowa- On a perfect Saturday afternoon where the University of Dubuque women’s lacrosse team honored their seniors, the Spartans could not slow down the Carthage College Lady Red, falling 17-7.

Both teams did not take long to find the scoring column as Carthage got things started with a goal less than four minutes in. UD did not wait long to respond, as Breann Tjaarda found the back of the net in the sixth minute, for the first of her two goals.

The Spartans got back to back goals from Ashlyn Ptasienski and Sara Rose to cut the Carthage lead to 5-3 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the first half, however the Spartans could not manage to pull any closer than that as the Lady Red would score the four of the next five goals.

Claire Carlson continues to extend to team lead in goals, adding three more this afternoon and now has 47 goals in her freshman campaign.  On senior day, Ashlyn Ptasienski was the lone senior to score a goal on Senior Day, however Robyn Wittkopf did have two assists.

Despite the loss, UD goalie Kyra Nelson, recorded a season and career high 16 saves.

UD still has a chance to reach the CCIW Tournament as they host North Central College on Wednesday, April 26th at 7:00 p.m. in their final home game of the season.
