GREENVILLE, Ill. - The University of Dubuque Spartans baseball team tossed their first pitch of the seaason on Friday and held a lead through the top of the eighth before Greenville rallied in the bottom of the eighth to grab a 7-6 lead. UD would get two hits in the top of the ninth, but would strand runners at on the corners when they game ended in favor of the hosts by a final 7-6.
UD scored six runs on 14 hits but committed five errors, Greenville finished with seven runs in 10 hits and committed two errors. Nathan Schneiderman took the loss in 1.2 innings. Doug Van Dyke got the starting nod and would fan five batters in 4.2 innings of work. Jordan Nelson struck out two in 1.2 innings of relief.
Tyler Imrich, Thomas Kempf, Jarad Clevenger, Josh Pawlowski all collected doubles. Seven Spartans finished with two hits in the loss.
Spartans continue on Saturday with a nine inning game vs. Greenville at 10:00 a.m. and a nine inning game against University of Chicago scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
