Greenville, Ill. - The University of Dubuque baseball team captured a pair of wins on Saturday, an 11-7 win over Greenville, and a thriller in 14 innings over the University of Chicago 7-5. UD improved to 2-1 overall in their opening weekend.
Kueter earned the win vs. Greenville after tossing six innings and striking out nine batters. He three earned runs in seven hits after facing 27 batters. Nick Sewruk earned the save after tossing three innings, striking out two and giving up three runs and faced 16 batters. UD stranded 13 batters on base and committed just one error. The Spartans scored 11 runs on 15 hits. Earning doubles in the game were Thomas Kempf, Will Doherty, and Tyler Imrich. Doherty led at the plate with three hits in four at bats, scoring three runs and earning two RBI's.
In game two UD captured the win after scoring two runs in the top of the 14 inning. Defense stepped up and the Spartans struck out the fiirst batter. The second batter singled and Nathan Schneiderman fanned the next two batters to end the extended game by collecting three K's in his one inning pitched.
