Betthauser and Murfin Earn IIAC Honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Kelsey Betthauser and Blaze Murfin have been named Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field, Field Performers of the Week. Betthauser won on the women’s side with Murfin on the men’s side.
Betthauser (Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth) finished in fourth place in the weight throw at the UW-Platteville on February 10th. Despite finishing fourth, her throw of 16.53m is now the top mark in the Iowa Conference, second all-time at UD and 16th in NCAA Division III.
Blaze Murfin (Dallas City, Ill./Illini West) earned his fourth IIAC Indoor Track and Field, Field Performer of the Week honor by winning both the shot put and weight throw at the UW-Platteville Invite. His throw of 17.16m in the shot put set a University of Dubuque school record and is second in NCAA Division III and leads the Iowa Conference. In the weight throw, Murfin launched a winning throw of 18.17m, which is the best in the Iowa Conference and eighth in NCAA Division III.
The Spartan track and field teams return to the track on Friday when the Spartans host the UD Spartan Invite beginning at 3:00.
