Football Dominates Ground Game in Road Victory

LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Dubuque football team was anxious to stop the two game skid, Saturday the Spartans pounded the ground game and out gained the host Prairiewolves 451-57. UD finished the afternoon with 651 total yards in the 42-27 road victory to even their IIAC mark at 2-2.
The Spartan offense scored in every quarter, but it was the UD defense which caused five turnovers to help secure the contest. Michael Joseph led with another multiple interception game with three to extend his season total to eight. He finished with six tackles and three pass breakups. Derek Trotter led UD in tackles with nine including one forced fumble and a pass breakup. Logan Benter added six tackles, but led Spartans with three quarterback hurries. The Spartans scored 14 points off turnovers.
UD's offense was led by the duo running back of Maurece Herrion,20 carries for 215 yards, and Dwayne Allen Jr. who rushed 15 times for 213 yards and four touchdowns for an average of 14.2 yards a carry. He finished the afternoon with touchdown runs of eight yards and 71 yards in the first quarter; a 20 yard TD run in the third quarter; and a 51 yard TD in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Conor Feckley completed 7-22 pass attempts for 200 yards. He found Dylan Schultz on a 29 yard TD in the second quarter and Emmanuel Jenkins in the next series for an 81 yard TD pass. Jenkins led the Spartans in receiving with three for 113 yards.
The Spartans (4-2 overall, 2-2 in IIAC) return home to face the Simpson College Storm on homecoming next week. The Storm's game was hampered by weather on Saturday and was delayed until 7:30 p.m. for a re-start.
