Football Wins on Senior Day 35-21

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Spartans football team improved to 6-3 overall on Senior Day at Chalmers Field after a 35-21 victory over the Coe College Kohawks.

The Spartans found their offense and finished with a balanced 226 yards rushing and 228 yards passing (454 total yards) and scored in every quarter on Saturday. Michael Briscoe started at quarterback and completed 14 of 26 pass attempts for 228 yards and three touchdowns. Kody Reimer caught seven passes for 140 yards and three TD's. Dylan Schultz grabbed five passes for 56 yards with many on third down plays. Maurece Herrion rushed 23 times for 127 yards and a touchdown. Keyshawn Carr rushed 11 times for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Le'Devin Smith led the defense with 11 tackles, Derek Schambow finshed with 10 tackles and Michael Joseph six tackles for the senior trio. Doug Gates had two quarterback sacks and three quarterback hurries.

Jacob Rentz punted six times for 222 yards and dropped three inside of the Kohawk 20 yard line pinning the Kohawks deep in their own territory. Brayden Neuendorf kicked off six times for 329 yards for an average of 54.8 yards.

The victory kept the Spartans alive for a possible second place finish in the Iowa Conference. Nebraska Wesleyan beat Simpson 45-38, Central beat Luther 23-21, and #15 Wartburg beat Buena Vista 56-14. The Spartans 4-3 in IIAC will travel next week to face Central 5-2 in IIAC in Pella, Iowa.
