Martin and Wright Named IIAC Players of the Week

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Two University of Dubuque student-athletes earned Iowa Conference weekly honors for their play last week. Volleyball’s Kara Wright was named IIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week and Alexa Martin of women’s soccer was named IIAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Kara Wright (So., Stockton, Ill./Stockton) helped lead the UD volleyball team to three conference victories last week to improve to 19-1 overall and 4-1 in IIAC action. In the Spartans three wins, Wright had 20 kills, 24 digs and 13 blocks. Of the 13 blocks, six were solo blocks and seven were block assists.
Alexa Martin (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) was a key part in the Spartans going 2-0 on the week with wins over UW-Platteville and Simpson College, pitching shutouts in both of those victories. Martin attempted two shots in the two games, with one going on goal. The UD defense held Simpson without a shot attempt in their 2-0 win on Saturday and limited UW-Platteville to nine shots in the 1-0 win.
