BOX SCORE vs. Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team opened their 2017-18 season on Wednesday and came away with a 75-61 road victory over the Edgewood College Eagles.

"Offensively we did some good things" commented coach Robbie Sieverding. "T.J. Lake and Jamaree Atwater played well offensively finishing with 23 points each. I felt we had solid contributions off the bench with Jarett Easton and Deonte Newsome providing a spark for us. Defensively the Spartans played well at times, as we held them to 32% from the field, but we need to play without committing fouls. I'm Looking forward for us to get better on the road this weekend."

The Spartans let the hosts rally back to under double digits throughout the contest, but would fight off the challenges each time. UD committed 26 fouls and the Eagles sank 17-22 free throw attempts (77.3%).

UD shot 27-64 from the field (42.2%), 8-24 from beyond the three point arc (33.3%), and a chilly 13-21 from the free throw line (61.9%). The Spartans held the edge in rebounding 48-35 and never trailed in the opener, leading for 39:11 and game was tied for :49. UD scored 32 points in the paint, 11 points off the Edgewood Eagles miscues, and 23 points by bench players. Fourteen players saw action and 10 scored in the victory.
