MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team fought through chilly weather on Thursday night and unfortunately would come up short in both games. In the opener, UD lost 5-7 and left five runners on base. In the nightcap, UD left bases loaded in the top of the seventh and once again would come up shy of the Cornell Rams who won 8-6 as the Spartans would strand 16 runners on base.

UD combined for 17 hits and committed five errors in the two contests. Courtney Markin led offense in game one after  a 3-4 outing and a pair of RBI's. Morgan Turnmire ended game two after finishing 2-4 at the plate and scoring twice. Taylor Allard scored once and was 2-5 at th3 plate.

Kopp took the loss for game one despite allowing just one earned run. In game two, Taylor Kurts suffered the loss after tissing a complete game and allowing just three earned runs.

This weekend the Spartans are scheduled to play at Nebraska Weskeyan on Saturday, April 7. Weather is expected to possibly change the scheduled doubleheader in the Lincoln, Neb. area. We will post on social media as soon as we hear about any changes to the upcoming schedule.
