INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team captured their first Iowa Conference win of the season on Wednesday while on the road at the Simpson College Storm. UD lost the opener 1-5 after committing three errors, but rallied back to take game two and holding the Storm scoreless in a 2-0 victory.

In game one, the Spartans scored one run off seven hits with Mackenzie Kopp taking the loss on the mound after allowing 12 hits and four earned runs in six innings. She would strike out one and walked four Storm batters after facing 36 batters.

Sophomore Taylor Allard had the hot bat and was a pefect 3-3 at the plate and earned the lone RBI in the third off a single to right field sending Gabrielle Marchese home. The Spartans would leave seven runners on base in the loss.

In the second game, UD's Taylor Blair would shut down the Storm's offense and allowed just five hits and no runs after striking out two and walking three. Defensively UD played errorless and forced the host Storm into two errors.

UD scored the only runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Allard singled through the left side and Brandy Heraty homored sending two runs across the plate. With two outs, UD would strand two runners on base. Allard went 2-4 in the game with a pair of singles.

The Spartans continue a busy week and will play at UW-Platteville on Thursday, April 12 at 4:00 p.m. before returning to play in the IIAC against the Wartburg College Knights on Saturday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m..
