DUBUQUE, Iowa – After rolling past Wartburg on Friday afternoon, the University of Dubuque (13-14, 8-4 IIAC) baseball team came up short in both games against the Knights on Saturday, by scores of 3-0 and 3-2.

How it Happened
-Just like game one of the series on Friday, both pitchers cruised through the first two innings until Wartburg put a two spot up in the top of the
third for a 2-0 lead.
-Wartburg built their lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning but UD cut their rally short after Will Doherty caught a runner trying to steal second.
-The Spartans best chance to score came in the eighth inning as the UD had runners on first and second with only one out but Tyler Lewan ripped
a line drive right at the shortstop who caught it and fired it to the second baseman to double off the runner.
-UD put two runners on again in the ninth, this time with no one out. UD’s Dalton Garst would ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the
comeback attempt.

How it Happened
-UD’s Tyler Carlson retired nine of the first 10 batters through three innings before surrendering three hits and two runs to the Knights in the top of the fourth.
-Kellen Mitchell picked up UD’s first hit of the game with two outs in the fourth but nothing would come of it.
-Thomas Kempf doubled to lead off the fifth inning and Justin Jenson followed with an infield single to put runners on first and third with no outs. Tyler Imirch bought home Kempf with groundout to the third baseman for the Spartans first run of the afternoon.
-Will Doherty lead off the bottom of the seventh for UD with a double to right center. The Spartans played small ball for the second run as Kempf grounded out to the second to advance Doherty to third before Justin Jenson flied out to right field to bring Kempf home and make it 2-2.
-Wartburg strung together three singles in the top of the eighth to grab a 3-2 lead.
-The Spartans got the tying run on in the bottom of the ninth inning after a walk but the threat was cut short after a pinch runner was picked off.

The Spartans will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to Luther College for a midweek Iowa Conference doubleheader. Game one will start begin at 1:00 p.m.
