DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque baseball team began the weekend with a bang, nine different Spartans recorded at least one hit on Friday afternoon, as the Spartans took the opening game of the series with Nebraska Wesleyan, 17-1.

How It Happened
-After stranding two runners in the first inning, the Spartan offense exploded in the second inning. UD recorded eight runs, on four hits with 3 walks and two hit batters in the inning.
-Nasir Ricks got UD on the board first in the second with a RBI single, followed by a Jack Lasswell RBI single to center. Justin Jenson would double down the left field line to bring Ricks around to score.
-UD was held scoreless in the third inning but bounced back in the fourth to plate six more runs, this time on five hits, two walks and another hit batter.
-Kellen Mitchell would cap the six runs fourth with a RBI single to center field to score Jack Lasswell who had a single up the middle to score two runs earlier in the frame
-Thomas Kempf doubled to lead off the fifth before scoring on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Will Doherty.
-The Spartans capped the scoring for the afternoon with one more run in the sixth after Kellen Mitchell tripled down the left field line and scored on a Tyler Lewan single to left field.

-UD’s 17 runs against Nebraska Wesleyan are the most in a game this season by the team.
-Kueter’s six wins this season puts him in a tie for second place in a single season by a UD pitcher. One behind the record.
-After one strikeout today, Kueter is has 67 strikeouts this season and is now three strikeouts from breaking the record for most strikeouts in a single season and four strikeouts from breaking the career mark of 150.
