Spartans Rack Up IIAC Weekly Honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Four different student-athletes hauled in Iowa Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday. Chase Kueter was named Baseball Pitcher of the Week, Tanasha Atwater for Women’s Field Performer of the Week, Ron Brown for men’s Field Performer of the Week and the men’s track 4x100 team, for Men’s Track Performance of the Week.

Chase Kueter picked up his third career Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Week award after two starts resulted in two  wins over Luther and Loras. Kueter threw five innings against Luther, giving up six hits and two earned runs. Against Loras, he went seven strong innings, striking out eight Duhawks and allowed just one earned run.

Tanasha Atwater grabbed Women’s Field Player of the Week after setting a new season best of throw of 14.71M (48-3.25) in the shot put. Atwater, among Division I and Division II competition, qualified for the shot put finals at the Drake Relays final in women’s shot put finishing 8th in the event. She is now ranked second in the nation in the shot put and leads the Iowa Conference.

Ron Brown took home the shot put title at the Grand View Viking Classic on April 27th with a mark of 16.48m (54-1). That mark is now sixth best in NCAA Division III. Brown helped the Spartans to the team title at the Grand View Viking Classic by also placing in the discus (46.22m) and hammer (50.32m).

The men’s 4x100 team of Kyle Thomas, Clayton Gray, Isaiah Ellis and Jeremiah Steed qualified for the finals where they ran a season-best and Iowa Conference best time of 41.76 to finish in fifth place at the 109th Drake Relays.
