UD’s bats were quiet again to begin game two of the doubleheader but the bottom of the order sparked the offense. Jack Lasswell led off the bottom of the third followed by a Cody Kramschuster triple to left center field for UD’s first run of the day. JJ Valencia delivered UD’s third straight hit on a single to center field to give UD the 2-0 lead. The Kohawks would limit the damage at two runs before responding with four runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning on five hits for a 4-2 lead.

Kramschuster and Valenica were once again in the middle of a UD rally, this time leading off the bottom of the fifth with a single to left field and a walk. After Jarad Clevenger was hit by a pitch, UD chased Coe’s starter Andrew Timp without recording an out in the fifth. The Spartans were only able to get one run back in the inning when Thomas Kempf reached on a fielder’s choice to score a run. Coe pushed their lead to two runs once again in the sixth with one run of their own.

The Spartans bats finally broke loose in the bottom half of the sixth. UD’s first five batters reached base. Kramschuster came up big again with an RBI double to tie the game at 6-6. UD would grab their first lead since the third inning when Jarad Clevenger brought home Jack Lasswell on a sacrifice fly. After back to back singles from Garst and Kempf that brought home three more runs, Will Doherty capped off the eight run inning with a two run home run over the left field fence.

Despite giving up five runs, Doug Van Dyke still earned the win on the mound for the Spartans after going six innings and striking out nine. Nick Sewruk would get his first save of the season as he got the final nine outs to seal to Spartan 11-7 win.

Game three of the series will take place on Saturday with first pitch at noon at Dan W. Runkle Field.
