Three Spartans Earn IIAC Player of the Week Honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – In the first week of athletic competition for the 2017-2018 school year, the University of Dubuque picked up three Iowa Conference Player of the Week honors. Conor Feckley (football), Arantxa Martinex (Women’s Tennis) and Alyssa Cose (Volleyball) all received honors in their respective sports.

Conor Feckley  (Senior, Anchorage, Alaska) helped lead UD to a season opening 32-26 double overtime win at Bethel University. In the victory, Feckley tossed a school record 65 passes, completing 29 of them for 337 yards, three touchdowns and a long of 49. He completed a pass to six different Spartans. This is Feckley’s second career Iowa Conference player of the week around, the first one coming last season after his record breaking performance against Bethel.

Arantxa Martinez (Senior, San Luis Potosi, Mexico) has picked up right where she left off last season, earning yet another Iowa Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors for the fourth time in her career. Martinez moved to 5-0 on the season after two more wins last week at the number one position. Martinez did not drop a single set in the process. In doubles, she teamed up with Madeline Parker to go 2-0 on the week as well, winning both of their matches by a score of 8-1. Martinez has won 28 consective single dual matches at the number one spot, her last loss come on October 6th, 2015.

Alyssa Cose (Senior, Sherrill, Iowa) grabbed her first career Iowa Conference Volleyball Player of the Week honor. The Spartans went 4-0 this weekend at the Lake Forest Invite, winning three of the matches in straight sets. Cose was named to the all-tournament team with her performance. Over the four matches Cose had 128 assists for an assists/set ratio of 9.14, 15 kills and 19 digs.
