DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque has received a $10,000 grant from the Dubuque Racing Association to purchase a used field research vehicle to maintain and improve the undergraduate field-work and experiential learning capabilities in the UD Department of Natural and Applied Sciences.

The grant will help replace the oldest of three vehicles used by the Department of Natural and Applied Sciences. The vehicle will be used for classwork where boats and/or field equipment are needed, travel to local and regional science facilities and exhibits, student research, attendance at regional conferences for learning enrichment and student research presentations. Additionally, the vehicle will be used by faculty and staff to conduct outreach programs at local high schools.

Field research vehicles help provide field experiences and community outreach. They are an essential and beneficial portion of the educational experience provided at UD.

The Dubuque Racing Association and associated casinos, Q Casino and Diamond Jo Casino, are partners in this grant support. Q Casino is owned by the City of Dubuque and is run under the guidance of the Dubuque Racing Association. Profits from both casinos go to the city and area charitable organizations and gaming taxes provide revenue for the city, county, and state.
