Volleyball Goes 4-0 at Lake Forest Invite

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The University of Dubuque volleyball teams opened up their 2017 season in dominating fashion by going 4-0 at the Lake Forest Invite.

The Spartans defense came to play in their first match of the season and led them to a victory in straight sets. UD posted 12.5 blocks by six different Spartans, led by Rylee Andresen with four block assists and Lauren Egnarski with two solos and one assist.  To go along with the 12.5 blocks, UD added 36 digs. Meagan Albon dug out nine Aurora attacks with Grace Strawser digging another seven. Karrah Davis did it on offense and defense, powering UD with 14 of the team’s 34 kills and also coming up with eight digs.

UD finished day one at the Lake Forest Invite with a dominating win over Finlandia to go 2-0 on the day. After coming up with 12.5 blocks in game one, the Spartans were all over the net again, recording eight more team blocks. Seven different Spartans had at least one block assist, and Lydia Kleckner, a freshman, had two assists and one solo block. On the attack, UD had a very balanced attack with seven Spartans coming up with at least four kills and no one having more than six. Rachel Livingston and Alyssa Cose dished out 22 and 13 assists, respectively.

In UD’s toughest match of the weekend the Spartans found themselves down multiple times and continued to find ways to bounce back to get the win. UD continued their tear at the net in the tournament, blocking 11 more attacks. Rylee Andresen and Kara Wright both had seven block assists. Jenna Runde dug out 17 attacks, while Karrah Davis also had double digit digs with 12. Karrah Davis was her typical self on offense with 16 kills on 39 attempts. Three other Spartans had at least eight kills with Lauren Egnarski leading those with 11

This match was never in doubt as the Spartans beat Milwaukee School of Engineering to go 4-0 on the weekend and winning three of the matches in straight sets. The Spartans served seven aces in the match, coming from six different players. Jenna Runde was the lone with multiple. Runde also led UD with 10 digs. UD had 36 kills and a hitting percentage of .274 in the match and Karrah Davis had 12 kills.  

Alyssa Cose and Karrah Davis were both selected to the All-Tournament Team. UD returns to action on September 6th when they travel to Cornell College.
