Baseball Loses on Road to #18 Coe
Apr 9, 2019
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Univeristy of Dubuque baseball team wrapped up their three game regular season series against the #18 Coe College on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Kohawks, 8-3.
How it Happened
-Both teams had chances to score first in the first two innings but it was the Kohawks who broke through first, putting up a three run, third inning on three hits and a UD error.
-The Spartans got one of the three runs back in the next half inning as Kellen Mitchell drew one of his three walks before Daulton Kvenvold singled to right center to move Mitchell to third. Jarad Clevenger would then fly out to centerfield, deep enough to allow Mitchell to tag from third and score for UD’s first run.
-Coe tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth but UD would get those two runs right back in the top of the seventh.
-Jack Pawlowski singled to right field with one out to set up a Zach McCoy, two run, home run to left field to make it 6-3.
-After the McCoy homer, the Spartans would go on to load up the bases but the Kohawks picked off a Spartan runner, ending the UD threat.
-Coe added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to push their lead back to five and the Spartans were never able to muster up another rally in their final two at-bats.
