TUCSON, Airz. – The University of Dubuque baseball team bat's got hot early and stayed hot throughout Monday night's doubleheader against Bethany Lutheran, leading to a sweep of the Vikings after wins by the score of 19-9 and 12-5.

How It Happened
-The Spartans bot the bats rolling early on Tuesday night, scoring seven runs on five hits in the first two innings of the game.
-Bethany Lutheran came storming back in the top of the fourth, pounding out eight hits, for eight runs that was capped by a grand slam to take a 8-7 lead over UD.
-The bottom of the fifth inning began with a Bethany Lutheran error and the Spartans took full advantage. UD would go on to score four runs in the inning to regain the lead.
-The Spartans blew the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth, batting around with seven hits, while taking advantage of two more Bethany Luther errors for an eight spot in the inning.
-Patience was key for the Spartans in game one of the doubleheader, drawing 10 walks in the 19-9 win.

How It Happened
-Bethany Lutheran struck first in the bottom of the first, coming up with four hits in the inning but UD was able to limit the Vikings to just one run.
-The hot bats for the Spartans carried over to game two, posting multi-run innings in innings two through four. UD posted two in the second after a Goldstein triple and a Viking error.
-Two more runs came across for UD in the third by playing some small ball. Two singles began the inning, followed by a double steal then a run scoring on a fielder’s choice. The second run came via a sac fly off the bat of Brandon Ramos.
-Once again, UD used to a big inning to blow the game open, this time with a four run, fourth inning. Despite just two hits in the inning, UD drew one walk, a hit batter and yet another Viking error.
-The Spartans scored two more runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to prevent any chance of a Vikings comeback.
