Burmahl and Malm Grab USTFCCCA Central Region Awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2019 Outdoor Track and Field Season on Tuesday, where UD’s Rebecca Burmahl was named Women Central Region Field Athlete of the Year and Jake Malm was named Women’s Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

In her senior campaign, Burmahl (Monticello, Iowa/Monticello) is ranked first nationally in the hammer at 56.79m (186-4) and eighth nationally in the discus at 46.11m (151-4). She scored 16 points at the A-R-C Championships and is the all-time A-R-C record holder in the hammer. Burmahl will compete in both the hammer and discus this weekend at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

For the second straight year, Malm has been honored as the Women’s Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Malm coached his throws group to 71 points at the A-R-C Conference Championships which was the most scored by any throws group at the meet in school history. He had athletes win conference titles in the shot, discus and hammer along with the national leader in the hammer event. As #EventSquad ranks, his discus group is ranked first, his hammer is second and his shot put squad sits in third. Malm will have a busy weekend at the national championships this weekend as the Spartans have five different throwers competing.
