Four Spartans Grab A-R-C Player of Week Accolades

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Rylee Andresen and Kara Wright of volleyball and Chad Marsh and AJ Hunter of football brought home American Rivers Conference Player of the Week honors for their performances over the last week.

Chad Marsh (Junior, Oswego, Ill./Oswego) Marsh led the Spartans with 15 tackles (4 solo, 11 assisted), 1.5 tackles for loss of five yards, one interception, one pass break-up, and .5 sack for loss of four yards. The UD defense held the storm to 89 yards on the ground and intercepted the Storm four times.

AJ Hunter (Junior, Elgin, Ill./Larkin) racked up 49 yards on two kickoff returns.  Hunter also caught one pass for 41 yards to finish the day with 90 total yards. In conference play Hunter averages 19.5 yards per return to rank fifth in the league.

This is the first player of the week honors for both football players. The Spartan football team hosts Wartburg for the American Rivers Conference Championship on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The volleyball dup of Rylee Andresen (Junior, Oxford Junction, Iowa/Midland) and Kara Wright (Junior, Stockton, Ill./Stockton) earned player of the week honors on their way to helping the Spartans win the A-R-C Tournament and punch a ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998. Wright took home Offensive Player of the Week honors as she had a combined 32 kills in UD’s wins over Coe and Wartburg. Wright also had two solo blocks, three block assists, one service ace and 23 digs. This is the second time this season that Wright has been named A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week.

Rylee Andresen became the third Spartan this season to be given an A-R-C Player of the Week honor, joining Wright and Jenna Runde. To earn the defensive player of the week award, Andresen was a force at the net with for solo blocks and four block assists. She also pitched in on the offensive side with 22 kills in the two wins.

The volleyball team will play the University of Chicago in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
