Rigby Lifts UD Past Monmouth

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men’s soccer team got two second half goals from Chris Rigby in route to a 2-0 win and snapping a four game losing streak. The victory was also the 100th career win for head coach Brad Johnson.

How It Happened
-The Spartans had the best first scoring chance of the night in the first half when Chris Rigby fired a rocket from about 20 yards out but was saved by a diving Monmouth goalkeeper.
-UD dominated time of possession in the first half, Monmouth did not record their first shot until the 40th minute of play.
-The Spartans outshot the Fighting Scots 14-2 in the first half. Neither of Monmouth’s shots went on goal.
-UD wasted no time pushing their attack in the second half. Chris Rigby dribbled up the left side of the field after a long pass, cut back into 18 yard box and slipped his shot past a diving goalkeeper to give UD a 1-0 lead in the 46th minute.
-Jake Persenico was close to pushing the Spartans lead to two with just under 15 minutes to play but it sailed just left of the net.
-The Fighting Scots that there best look of the night in the 80th minute when they got a clean look from right outside the 18 but it was hit right at UD goalie, Brandon White, who made the easy save.
-The Spartans finally got the insurance goal they were looking for in the 88th minute after a foul in the box led to a UD free kick from the penalty kick area. Glorie Luwara gave Rigby a little touch pass and Rigby sent his shot past the Monmouth wall for his second goal of the night.
