MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Softball team jumped out to an early 9-0 lead, but Cornell rallied back to end game one by a 10-8 final in favor of the Spartans. Brandy Heraty finished the opener with two homers and finished with six RBI's! Heraty now owns the school record for homeruns in a season with eight and extended her lead in season RBI's to 37. Teammate Deanna Origer also sent a ball deep and would finish with three RBI's and moved into fourth place all-time with 29 runs scored this season. UD scored 10 runs off 14 hits and committed one error. Kayla Breunig collected the win after facing 36 batters and would allow seven earned runs in 10 hits and has an 3.33 ERA.

Softball collected the sweep of the Cornell College Rams after winning game two by a 1-0 score. Kylee Biedermann with the winning RBI in the fifth inning. Lexi Schmidt earned the victory on the mound after facing 27 Ram batters. She allowed just three hits and improved to 11-6 overall with her second shutout of the 2019 season and has an 2.64 ERA.

The Spartans (20-11 overall, 3-7 in A-R-C) host the Buena Vista University Beavers (17-15 overall, 3-9 in A-R-C) on Good Friday, April 19 at 1 p.m.
