DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque volleyball team rolled past the UW-River Falls Falcons on Saturday afternoon, 3-1 (25-15,24-26,25-10,25-18).

The Spartans (11-6) spotted the Falcons the first two points of the match before the UD offense got rolling. With the opening set tied at seven, Isabel Cleary came up with a kill for the Spartans, leading UD to score six straight points behind the serve of Paige Harbort. After the run behind Harbort, the Falcons would never get closer than four points in the set and UD jumped out to a 1-0 lead. In set two, UD trailed 24-21 with UW-River Falls on the verge of evening the match at one set each but UD rallied off three straight points to extend the set. However, after the Spartans tied it at 24, the Falcons responded by scoring the next two points to take set two.

UD scored the first three points of the third set and never looked back, cruising to a 25-10 set win. The Falcons found a little rhythm in the fourth set and jumped ahead by three points when they served out of rotation to take two points off the board for UW-River Falls. The Spartans grabbed the momentum from that point on and closed out the match with a 25-18 fourth set victory.

The UD defense slowed down the Falcon attack, as the Falcons only had a hitting percentage over .079 in just one set. Meanwhile the Spartans hit over .115 in all four sets and finished at .194.

Kara Wright did a little bit of everything on Saturday, leading the Spartans in kills with 12 and blocks with two solos, while also adding 16 digs. Johanna Steggall collected a staggering 28 digs against the Falcons with no errors.

The Spartans have nearly a week off before they host Buena Vista on Friday, October 5th at 7:30 p.m.
