Box Score

DUBUQUE, Iowa – For the second time in three days, the University of Dubuque men’s soccer team lost in heartbreaking fashion, this time to the Milwaukee School of Engineering, 3-2.

Dubuque, Univ. of  2, MSOE 3

How It Happened
-In the 11th minute of play, the Spartans took their first corner kick of the afternoon when Chris Rigby bent the corner past the goalie but drilled the back post and somehow stayed out of the net.
-In the 21st minute, the Spartans commited a penalty in the box giving the Raiders a penalty shot opportunity, which they converted to grab the early 1-0 lead.
-14 minutes later the Spartans answered back, Dominik Chece sent a rock of a shot from outside the 18 yard box over the goalie’s outstretched arms to even the score at 1-1.
-UD had an opportunity to grab the lead in the final 20 seconds of the opening half but Jake Persenico’s header sailed just over the crossbar.
-Early in the second half, MSOE was granted another penalty kick, this time after an accidental handball in the box. However, this time Steven Owens stuffed the Raiders shot to keep the score tied.
-After just missing several chances to grab the lead, the Spartans finally did when Glorie Luwara sent a pass into the box from the left side to find a sliding Roody Joinvil who sent it past the goalie to put UD ahead for the first time.
-The Raiders did not have many scoring chances in the second half but with just under five minutes remaining MSOE converted on just their fourth shot on goal on the tie to tie the game at 2-2. After the play, UD goalie was given a red card, forcing the Spartans to play down a man.
-MSOE did not waste much time taking advantage of their man advantage, drilling a goal past the new UD goalkeeper, Brian Jome, to regain the lead with 3:32 remaining.
-The Spartans had one last chance after a MSOE penalty with three seconds left gave the Spartans a free kick from about 30 yards out but the kick was blocked by a MSOE player and time expired.
