DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque Wind and Jazz ensembles will present their joint fall concert on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Heritage Center’s John and Alice Butler Hall.  The concert will be under the direction of Mike Compton, Wind Ensemble conductor, and Austin Seybert, Jazz Ensemble conductor.

WHAT:            Fall Wind and Jazz Ensembles Concert

WHEN:            Saturday, Oct. 20 – 7:30 p.m.

WHERE:          John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center, University of Dubuque

TICKETS:        No Ticket Required

The wind ensemble will perform pieces around the theme “Storytelling.”  Featuring compositions by Jack Stamp, David Holsinger, and Samuel Hazo, the music will transport the listener throughout Europe with stops including Scotland, the Swiss Alps, and even Russia. Steven Reineke's work, “Pilatus: Mountain of Dragons,” provides the centerpiece musical tome with an adventurous story of dragons and magic.

The jazz ensemble will focus on classic standards and recordings while appealing to the modern hits of the 21st century. From Frank Sinatra to Duke Ellington and Michael Buble to Justin Bieber, all of these pieces have historical significance in jazz history or recent success in modern pop music. It will be a night of music that features classics versus pop, where all of the music is arranged or originally written for the modern jazz ensemble.
