DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque volleyball team rebounded after a tough loss on Friday night, cruising past Nebraska Wesleyan in straight sets on Saturday afternoon, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22).

The Spartans wasted little time beating up on the Prairie Wolves in the first set, jumping out to an 9-3 and never letting NWU back within five for the remainder of the set, cruising to a 25-15 win. Set two was a back and forth affair with neither team getting a bigger lead than two until the Spartans went on a run late. With the set even at 20-19 in favor of UD, the Spartans would go on to score five of the final six points to move ahead two sets to none.

The most entertaining set of the afternoon was the third set. Nebraska Wesleyan looked determined to extend it to another set as they jumped out to a 10-6 lead. The Spartans worked their way back into it and tied it up at 16 all and eventually grabbed the lead at 21-19. NWU grabbed the lead right back at 22-21 to put the Spartans on the brink of dropping a set. The Spartans got help from a NWU service error then an attack error to regain the lead before getting an ace from Grace Strawser and kill from Rylee Andresen to close out the set at 25-22 and match.

Rylee Andresen was the lone Spartan to reach double figures in kills with 11, as the Spartans spread around the wealth on their team’s 42 kills. Sarrah Farraday added nine on 25 attacks and Kara Wright had six. On defense Andresen and Paige Harbort combined for five solo kills with three and two, respectively.

The Spartans step out of American Rivers Conference play this week when they travel to Mount Pleasant, Iowa to take on Iowa Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
