Chair Note
A note from Dr. Kathryn Dolter, Department Head, Department of Nursing, University of Dubuque

Preparing nurses to provide quality, safe, patient care in the demanding and ever-changing health care system of the 21st century is my main priority. The entire curriculum at the University of Dubuque (UD) is designed to achieve that goal.

At UD, you will have the opportunity to participate in clinical experiences in a wide variety of settings. During your clinical rotations, you will be challenged to develop a systematic critical thinking process for developing and implementing a coordinated plan of care to assist patients in achieving their health goals.

One of our greatest strengths is our faculty. Each has a strong clinical background, offering you the chance to learn from their experiences. Support of clinically experienced faculty will be essential in the development and improvement of your clinical proficiency. In addition, our low student to faculty ratio, 10:1, will give you many opportunities for individual advising and instruction with faculty members.

Preparation for the NCLEX-RN exam is key to your future success. Practice for this exam, begins in your first nursing course and continues throughout the curriculum.

If you are interested in becoming a nurse who is prepared to practice in the 21st century health care environment, I encourage you to visit our campus. I look forward to meeting with you and introducing you to Nursing at the University of Dubuque.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathryn Dolter
