Health, Physical Education and Recreation
Overview
The HPER Department offers undergraduate preparation programs for individuals seeking a career in Health, Wellness, Physical Education and Recreation. The University of Dubuque is fully accredited by the Iowa Department of Education to offer a preparation program in Physical Education (K-6, 7-12), Health (K-6, 7-12) and Coaching (K-12). The University of Dubuque also offers preparation for a degree in Health, Wellness & Recreation. As part of the coursework contained within this major is the potential to sit for nationally recognized certifications (i.e. ACSM, ARC, NSCA, CHES). Information on specific coursework can be found in the present HPER Catalog in the Curriculum section. Purpose HPER has three functions at the University of Dubuque. In cooperation with the Teacher Education Department, Physical Education and Health prepares professionals in school settings. The second function is to prepare majors in non-school professional settings. The third function is to provide elective activity courses for students' personal and physical fulfillment. The HPER faculty attempt to create a Christian environment in a service-oriented professional manner.
