University Arts & Science What constitutes a well-rounded education? The University of Dubuque, like many other liberal-arts based universities, would answer that a well-rounded education is one that includes a knowledge, appreciation and understanding both of one's cognate field of study as well as that of the liberal arts and sciences. At the University of Dubuque, a well-rounded education includes more than a cursory exposure to the liberal arts and sciences. As part of the University of Dubuque's educational experience, undergraduate students are offered a full array of liberal arts, fine arts, languages, social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics courses. These courses support the curricular requirements of both the undergraduate general education core and the course requirements of particular majors. Moreover, students are encouraged to enroll in and experience as many of these offerings as "free electives" as possible.
In addition to the many courses associated with University of Dubuque majors in the liberal arts and sciences ( Biology, English, Speech Communication, Psychology, Philosophy, Religion, and Sociology), the University offers courses in these areas:
The Social Sciences of History, International Studies, Political Science, & Economics
The Fine Arts of Music and Art
Languages, Mathematics and Chemistry, Earth Science, & Physics
