Biology - Curriculum

The biology major is designed to meet a variety of student interests through two tracks:

1. Pre-Health Professions/Microbiology/Cell Biology or
2. Ecological/Organismal Biology.

All biology majors complete a basic core of

BIO135 - General Zoology
BIO136 - General Botany
BIO235 - Cell Biology
BIO236 - Genetics

After this basic core, students specialize into one of the two tracks.  Students meet with their advisers to plan additional courses, internships, undergraduate research, and other experiences. Biology majors also must complete mathematics through UDMA 150, Physics 151, and Chemistry through UDCM 232.

A biology minor consists of 20 credit hours, including

BIO110 or BIO111 - Human or General Biology
BIO135 - General Zoology
BIO136 - General Botany
BIO235 - Cell Biology
BIO236 - Genetics

BIO246 - General Ecology may be substituted for BIO 110/111.
