Tution Only Covers 1/2

The "Tuition Only Covers ½" campaign was held on campus for the first time last spring.  The purpose of this awareness campaign was to educate and inform the campus community about the true costs of education and the important role that gifts to the University play in meeting those costs.  This student campaign is an effort to acquaint students with the importance of philanthropy before they become alumni/ae.

This statement "Tuition Only Covers ½" might seem a little unbelievable.  After all, each student pays substantially more than pocket change in tuition each year.  When you consider the costs of electricity, updates to technology, campus and building maintenance, faculty and staff salaries, classroom supplies and upkeep, and the list goes on and on...it doesn't seem so far fetched that tuition only covers half the cost of the entire educational experience.  Fortunately, the University of Dubuque receives gifts from outside sources each year, including alumni, friends, faculty and staff, that help to make up the difference.

The "Tuition Only Covers ½" awareness campaign included signs and posters with the "Tuition Only Covers ½" logo as well as giant price tags with the following costs:

Scholarships Awarded this Year-$6,607,830.00
Electricity Each Year-$444,696.00
