Intercollegiate Athletics Vision, Mission, and Goals
A nationally prominent athletic organization, which is excellent in all respects while providing fans with the highest entertainment value as we promote integrity and sportsmanship to unparalleled levels of excellence.
Our collective aspirations will be to achieve national success – both athletically and academically – and by so doing engage and inspire all constituencies to support the broader University pursuit of preeminence.
To allow student-athletes to meet or exceed their expectations in every aspect of their experience at the University and to provide the resources for coaches and staff to develop winning programs. This will be accomplished in an environment, that recognizes the value of diversity and adheres to the highest standards of integrity, work ethic and teamwork by student-athletes and staff while complementing the institution’s vision.
The mission of the UD Athletics and Intramurals Program is to support the greater goals of the University of Dubuque by providing opportunities for respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership, and sportsmanship to all students, faculty, and staff through the medium of movement and competition.
Recreation and Intramural Sports supports the holistic development of the student by providing a platform that contributes to their social and personal interaction with others and promotes physical well-being throughout the campus environment.
The Athletic Department is governed by the rules established by University of Dubuque in relation to the IIAC and the NCAA. The Athletic Department has the responsibility to provide the community with quality teams that are competitive within the philosophy of the College and the NCAA Division III guidelines.
All sports will place in the upper half of the Iowa Conference and qualify for the Iowa Conference Tournaments and with goals to be ranked in the top 25 nationally. When we are performing at these levels on a consistent basis, we will be competing for championships in the IIAC and nationally. The practice of conducting regular assessments and evaluations, in order to guide the Department’s response and adaptation to an ever-changing environment—including adapting programs to the evolving needs and interests of students, to the outreach goals of the College, and to the competitive demands of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Student-athletes will be at or above the all-campus grade point average. Graduation rates will be at or above the all-campus average
Marketing, Promotion, and Development plans will be designed and implemented to generate a source of revenue. These monies, along with all other funds available to the department, will be allocated and managed to ensure we have the resources for quality academic support services and comprehensive, excellent facilities for the Division III student-athlete.
Provide quality participation opportunities, which recognize and support gender and ethnic equity for all student-athletes in an atmosphere which fosters diversity in all constituencies. Further, the vision is to become known as a leader among Division III programs offering broad based, equitable, Title IX compliant student-centered programming.
All actions, whether proactive or reactive, will create, maintain and project an image of excellence at the University of Dubuque. Coaches and staff will appear in a professional manner with proper attire (a minimum of dress slacks and polo shirts) whenever representing the University of Dubuque on and off campus.
