The University of Dubuque supports all students to be successful in reaching their full potential and their academic goals. As part of UD's Bridge Program, all areas of campus life work collaboratively to assist students who come to UD with the desire to learn and succeed. The program helps students "bridge the gaps" that may exist in their preparation for college. The program includes a Summer Bridge experience, Reading & Study Skills classes, mandatory study labs, individualized tutoring, Skills Tutor learning modules, and peer mentoring. Bridge students are selected for the program by the Dean of Admissions and are notified with their acceptance letter. For more information contact Jesse James, Dean of Admissions, email@example.com.
Welcome to the University of Dubuque’s Bridge Program! As you read in your Letter of Admission, a condition of your acceptance to the UD family is your participation in the Bridge Program. Your commitment to the UD Bridge Program begins on Saturday, August 24, 2013. We believe that you can succeed in college and earn your degree, and this program offers focused support for your first year of college. The Bridge Program will help you “bridge the gaps” that you may have in your college preparation so that you can fulfill your true potential as a person and as a student. We look forward to working with you during this exciting time!

3. All textbooks and required class materials should be in your possession before classes start. Books purchased at the campus book store may be charged to your student account with your student ID, if preferred. Otherwise, plan ahead for other payment options. Save all receipts. For questions about books, contact the Textbook Manager.

4. Make sure you have your University ID with you at all times! You will need this every day for access to your housing and for meals, so treat it like your driver’s license. If you lose it, there is a $25 charge for replacement. If you lock yourself out of your room, Security will charge you $20 each time to unlock your door. You will receive a drawstring backpack and a nametag lanyard at Orientation, but you may want to purchase a plastic ID holder for the lanyard from the book store. Do not punch a hole in the ID anywhere, however. It won’t swipe if you do, and you will need to replace it!
5. For questions about ID’s and Parking, contact Security.
The dress is casual for all August events. For some outdoor activities, however, you will be more comfortable in recreational clothing, including athletic shoes (not sandals). Indoor activities in our Chlapaty Recreation & Wellness Center (CRWC) on the track floor require students to change into clean athletic shoes after entering the center. You will see all students carrying in their clean athletic shoes and then changing inside. You must wear other shoes (like flip-flops, sandals, or other athletic shoes) into the Rec Center, but then you have to change to clean athletic shoes when you get inside before you walk down to the track floor. In other words, you can’t wear your clean athletic shoes into the building and wear those same shoes on the track floor. This is enforced.
The residence halls may be warm (bring a small room fan), but some campus buildings are cold (bring a sweatshirt or light jacket if you get cold in air conditioning.) You will be doing a lot of walking, so make sure you have comfortable shoes. It may rain while you are walking across campus (bring a small umbrella if you don’t like to sit in wet clothing with wet hair.) For your own happiness and comfort level, just be ready for all possibilities!
If you participate fully in all programming and activities, you will make at least 100 new friends and know at least 50 faculty and staff members. You will know your way around campus, the location of all your classes, where to go to get questions answered, which campus organizations you may want to join, and how to succeed in college-level work. By the time classes begin on August 29, you will have a good start to a successful academic year at the University of Dubuque.
A UD education includes excellence in academics and professional preparation – and more! We care about you as a whole person and encourage your intellectual, spiritual, and moral development. UD and the Bridge Program will support you to reach your life goals. I look forward to meeting you very soon.
