Information for Parents/Guardians
UD's Career Services is led by its mission and goals. Also, we understand that parents and/or guardians serve as important resources for students and their career planning. Please take time to become familiar with the services we offer and continue to encourage your student's pursuit in their future career.
What you can do as a parent/guardian:
- Encourage your student to work on career planning throughout his or her college career.
- Resist the temptation to steer your student toward a major simply because it fits your interests. Students are more likely to be successful in academics and in their careers if they're doing what they enjoy.
- Encourage your student to visit UD's Career Services.
- Support internship and volunteer opportunities. Employers and graduate/professional schools are interested not just in a person's college degree, but also in what she/he has learned and done. While internships and volunteer positions may not pay well, their long-term value is worthwhile.

4 Year Career Development Guide: Career development is a long process of exploring and experiencing options. The following is a list of recommended activities to help students discover career interest and achieve those career goals. Not all of these activities will be applicable for every student, and some, it may change the order in which they apply some of these practices, but these are all activities students should consider while in college.
