Fitness Center

The Cottingham and Butler Fitness Center strives to offer the best services possible to the University's students, faculty, and staff. It is a safe and enjoyable place for the UD community to exercise.

  • Locations/Amenities:  The new C&B fitness center is located in the Chlapaty Recreation & Wellness Center. It is staffed by Front Desk & Fitness Center Supervisors. The fitness center features cardio equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes. Also, it has selectorized or stack loaded machines, plate loaded pieces, dumbbells, etc.
  • Group Fitness: Participating in the group fitness classes is a great way to exercise, reduce stress, and meet new people at the university! The number of classes offered have increased.

Policies

Cottingham & Butler Fitness Center and A.Y. McDonald Indoor Track

Membership Information

  • All areas, except the fitness center are free of charge for all UD faculty & staff along with their dependents (must be dependents per IRS regulations). Dependents under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent which includes the track/courts and fitness center. A membership to the fitness center must be purchased.
  • Fitness Center (Membership required) - The fitness center will be open for all UD faculty & staff, NICC faculty & staff, Cottingham & Butler employees and dependents over the age of 16. Spouses are dependents. Dependents 16-18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent at all times.
  • For spouses or dependents to have a membership, the faculty, staff and student members must also have a membership.
  • Spouses (dependents) of students (i.e. seminary, grad and undergrad) are allowed to purchase memberships to the fitness center and group exercise classes.
  • There are two types of membership; single or family. Single meaning faculty or staff member ($80) and for a family membership $80 for the faculty/staff person and $45 for each additional family member.
  • Memberships run January through June and July through December. The membership rate for faculty and staff is $80 for each 6 month period. Sorry no proration. The membership rate for each dependent is $45 for each 6 month period.
  • For spouses or dependents to participate in group exercise classes, it is $25 for the 6 month period.
  • All full-time students including seminary, but not including graduates have already paid their memberships in the semester fees.
  • Any part-time student, graduate student, and NICC student can purchase a membership for $55 a semester.

Step 1:  The membership fee will be collected at the student accounts office located in the Myers Center. Cash, check, or credit card only.

Step 2:  Take the receipt you will receive from the student accounts office to the security office located in Smith Hall.

Step 3:  For faculty and staff the security office will make sure your ID card is up to date and authorize you for fitness center use in the system.  Dependents will need to schedule a time with the security office to obtain a special ID card.

  • At the front desk in the CRWC you will be asked to show your ID to use both the fitness center and indoor track (courts). The attendant will need to scan your ID card for entrance into these areas.

     
                                                                                      Policies
  • All eligible members must present their ID to the front desk.
  • Proper workout attire must be worn. Proper attire includes closed-toe footwear, workout shorts and a shirt. Shirts must be worn at all times. No jeans, work boots, sandals or clothing that will damage padding on benches or may lead to injury.
  • Members must bring separate athletic (tennis) shoes for use in the workout areas. ONLY clean dry athletic shoes will be allowed in the fitness center & track.
  • Lockers are provided to the UD community free of charge during hours of operation in CRWC 203 & 204. Any locks left over night will be taken off by maintenance.
  • ONLY water is allowed on the track (courts) and in the fitness center.
  • No verbal or physical attacks on anyone or anything permitted. Foul language will not be tolerated. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Violation of any policy will lead to immediate expulsion from the facility and possible suspension of further use.
