Mission

MISSION STATEMENT

Career Services values the uniqueness of each individual and their ability to choose rewarding career paths. To explore their life calling is offered to those we serve. By providing expertise, resources, and support, we assist those we serve to maximize their liberal arts and professional studies education, and develop the highest possible level of career competency.

At the core of successful career development is self-knowledge, understanding of the world of work, job search skill development, and decision-making. Career Services is committed to providing quality services based upon this foundation.

GOALS

1. To educate students and alumni about the career development, planning, and implementation process.

2. To support students and alumni in the vocational exploration, identification, pursuit, and integration of personal and professional career goals.

3. To connect students and alumni directly to employment and continuing education opportunities including internship opportunities for students.

4. To teach students and alumni effective career navigation strategies, skills, and techniques.

5. To inform constituents about career options, job market trends, and workplace paradigms.

6. To collaborate with colleagues, administrators, faculty, alumni, and employers on projects that enhance career opportunities for students and alumni.

7. To assist all UD students to make and act on career decisions with increased awareness by educating and encouraging responsible timely involvement in career planning, internships, and job search processes.

8. To promote among individuals and organizations outside of the university community, a receptivity to and involvement with University of Dubuque, the Departments, and the students.

9. To develop the organization, structure and plans appropriate to the growth and resources of the program, in conjunction with the increasing needs of the University.

10. To identify/develop a network of employer contacts for student internships and future employment opportunities through developing effective long-term relationships with employers.

The Office of Career & Life Services' (OCLS) Advisory Board Members represent the following: UD Alumni, Department of Admissions, Department of Academic Affairs, Department of Athletics, Academic Support Center,Library, UD Student Body, UD Faculty, UD Staff, Office of Alumni Relations, Office of International Studies, Office of Multi-Cultural Services, Office of Residential Life, Dubuque Chamber of Commerce, Iowa Workforce Development, Off-Campus Mental Health and Substance Abuse Resources, and alternative On-Campus Resources.
