YP Dubuque Luncheon - Personal Budgeting (off-campus), Best Western Midway Hotel, Wednesday, 9/16/09 at 11:45am - 1:00pm.  You will learn about creating a personal budget.  Folling this event in October, you will learn about debt management and basic investing.  Join YP participants at the luncheon off of Highway 20 and hear from Mchelle Kennecott with Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Dubuque.  Cost is $10 for YP Members and $15 for non-YP Members. Fall, 2009; Off-Campus Career Exploration Programs

UD Students,

In conjunction with Dubuque Works and Northeast Iowa Council-BSA, the following "Nine" Fall, 2009 Career Exploration Programs are extended for area youth and college students (target audience 14 yrs. - 20 yrs. of age).   

After you carefully review the information and wish to participate, students are required to contact UD's Career Services to register and confirm the date/time of the event. All contact information and time frames are identified.

(1) Career Field: Veterinarian Medicine

Date: Tuesday, 9/15/09

Time: 7:00pm

Chartering Organization: Pet Med Animal Health Center

Address: 1170 Iowa St., Dubuque, IA.

Schedule: First Meeting 9/15/09 and runs 1x per month until April, 2010

Registration: UD Students are required to register least 2 Business Days in advance, space is limited

Pet Med Animal Hospital will be holding their open house for students interested in Veterinarian Medicine Careers. The purpose of this program is to provide information about careers in veterinary medicine and animal service organizations in the Dubuque area.

(2) Career Field: Health Careers

Date: Tuesday, 9/15/09

Time: 4:30pm - 5:30pm

Chartering Organization: Finley Hospital in the Babka Wellness Center

Address: 1550 University Ave., Dubuque, IA.

Schedule: First Meeting 9/15/09 and runs until November, 2009

Registration: UD Students are required to register at least 2 business days in advance, space is limited

The Finley Hospital will open the doors for you to learn about careers in radiology, physicians/surgeon, nursing, corrective therapy, hospital administration, and more. You will get a chance to tour various departments while meeting professionals to answer questions. The first of multiple Finley Health Exploring meetings will be held at the Babka Wellness Center of the Hospital.

(3) Career Field: Aviation

Date: Tuesday, 9/29/09

Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm

Chartering Organization: Dubuque Air Service

Address: 11000 Airport Road, Dubuque, IA.

Schedule: First Meeting 9/29/09 and runs until December, 2009

Registration: UD Students are required to register at least 2 business days in advance, space is limited

The Civil Air Patrol will meet at the Army Reserve Center located at the Dubuque Airport. The Civil Air Patrol will focus on aviation careers in the military. You will be able to get hands on simulation and even a chance to ride in their airplane.

(4) Career Field: Sports Medicine

Date: Thursday, 9/17/09

Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm

Chartering Organization: Dubuque Physical Therapy

Address: 1705 Delhi Street, Dubuque, IA.

Schedule: First Meeting 9/17/09 and runs until January, 2010

Registration: UD Students are required to register at least 2 business days in advance, space is limited

Dubuque Physical Therapy will be holding their first Exploring meeting. The purpose of this program is to provide you with information about careers in all types of sports medicine, physical therapy, and athletic training. They will also help answer any questions you may have regarding the profession while participating in hands-on projects demonstrating physiological principles. This post will meet once a month, with occasional off-site activities and learning opportunities as they arise.

(5) Career Field: Conservation

Schedule: Tuesday, 10/6/09

Time: 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Chartering Organization: Swiss Valley Nature Center

Address: 13606 Swiss Valley Road, Peosta, IA.

Registration: UD Students are required to register at least 2 business days in advance, space is limited

Meet with conservation officers and wildlife management.  Explorers get to experience working with the DNR and Fish and Wildlife Department.

(6) Career Field: Firefighting

Schedule: Meets 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Tuesday of the Month

Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Chartering Organization: East Dubuque Fire Department

Address: 183 Sinsinawa Ave., East Dubuque

Registration: UD Students are required to register at least 2 business days in advance, space is limited

Learn about all aspects of firefighting and meeting with area firefighters.

(7) Career Field: Law Enforcement

Chartering Organization: Guttenberg Police Department

Explorers will meet once a month learning about all aspects of law enforcement.

Learn about the field of broadcast and radio promotions. Have the opportunity to get on the air.

(9) Career Field: Communicative Disorders - Therapy Program 

Schedule: Monday, 10/5/09

Time: 5:30pm - 6:30pm

Chartering Organization: Unified Therapy

Address: 4135 Pennsylvania Ave., Dubuque, IA.

Registration: UD Students are required to register at least 2 business days in advance, space is limited

The program will cover occupational, speech, and auditory therapy.  Explorers will get to check out this excellent facility, while interacting with professionals trained in various types of therapy.
