Objectives The Department of Speech Communication offers courses for all students with the objectives of helping them to:
- become competent public speakers.
- develop an increased sophistication as a critic of persuasive messages.
- understand the relationships between writing, reading, and performing (embodying) literature.
- develop an appreciation of current theater practice and performance theory.
- develop familiarity with the use of persuasive messages in mass communication.
- respect the different kinds of intercultural discourse communities.
- become skilled in understanding the dimensions of interpersonal and small group communication.
- become conversant with the various models of organizational discourse and leadership theory.
- develop conceptual mastery concerning the practice of argumentation.
- be able to analyze literature germane to disciplinary inquiry.
