The American Library Association announced the winners of the Coretta Scott King awards on January 26, 2009. The Coretta Scott King award is given every year to honor the best books by African American authors and illustrators. These 2008 books will be ordered for the Curriculum Library. This year’s winners are:

The award is designed to commemorate the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to honor Mrs. Coretta Scott King for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace and world brotherhood.

| The ALA announced the Newbery and Caldecott award winners on January 26, 2009. The Newbery award winner for this year is The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, available in the Curriculum Library now (CL Fic Gai 43g) and the Caldecott award winner is the House in the Night by Susan Marie Swanson.
