UD Book Club - June Meeting

The UD Book Club will meet on Monday, June 16, from 12-1 in the library room L109 to discuss the book, Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky.

This work is two parts of a planned five part novel.  From the book jacket: The first part, A storm in June, opens in the chaos of the massive 1940 exodus from Paris on the eve of the Nazi invasion, during which several families and individuals are thrown together under circumstances beyond their control.  Together they face physical and emotional displacement and the annihilation of the world they knew.

Bring your lunch or buy one at Sylvia’s Common Ground Coffee Shop and join some of your colleagues for a thought provoking discussion. Copies of the book are provided by the library.  If you’d like to get a copy, please email Sue Reiter at sreiter@dbq.edu.

Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover

Feel guilty about judging a book by its cover? Always reading the same genre? Let us help you! Celebrate National Library Week and check out a covered book. Or as many as you like.

All we ask is that you wait til you’re home to unwrap it. You never know what you’ll get. You might just find your new favorite book, something you would otherwise never have ventured to read.

Have questions for YA author Lish McBride?

Lish McBride, the author of this month’s UD Young Adult Book Club book Hold Me Closer, Necromancer, has agreed to answer any questions you guys have about the book!! Ever want to ask an author why they did something, or didn’t do something before? Want to know about her writing process? Here’s your chance!

Becky will act as conduit/moderator. Just shoot her questions you have and she’ll send them along. We don’t want to overwhelm her with questions, so she’ll eliminate any duplicates and send them in batches. We’ll share questions/answers at our February 21/22 meetings.

If you haven’t picked up a book yet, I’ve got 2 extra copies waiting for you! Just let us know you want a copy by emailing Becky Canovan.
