Medical Insurance

University of Dubuque (UD) requires all students to provide proof of health insurance.

At the beginning of each year, emergency contact information and proof of insurance must be submitted to the Medical Coordinator office. This form supplies the University with vital information not only verification of insurance, so that the student is not billed for the student health insurance plan, emergency contacts, current cell phone number, medical conditions, as well as signature on specific waivers.

UD offers a student health plan for those students unable to provide proof of health insurance through MARKEL.  2008 - 2009 brochure will be available in near future at the Student Accounts Office.

Often, students are covered under a policy held by their parents. If this is the case, students should sit down with their parents and go over the coverage with them. Questions to consider are:

  • What is covered by the policy?
  • What is not covered?
  • Is University of Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa considered "of area" for the policy?
  • Is there a deductible?
  • Does the student have his/her own insurance card?  Or copy of the insurance card?
  • Students should carry their insurance card with them at all times.
    • Will be required for medical office visits
    • Will be required for completion of University of Dubuque required forms
    • Will be required in case of medical emergency
