Tony Danza Live! Comes to Dubuque

The University of Dubuque is proud to welcome alumnus Tony Danza, (C'72) and his nationally renowned show, Tony Danza Live! presented by Emily Lyn Entertainment. This special one-night-only performance will be held on Friday, May 7 at 8:00 p.m.in the Five Flags Theater to benefit the University of Dubuque's music program.

Perhaps best known for his loveable sitcom personas, Tony Danza is one of America's most popular performers. Having starred in several of television's favorite and long-running series, Danza has also established himself as a veritable stage and screen star, as well as a respected producer.

A native of Brooklyn, NY, Danza graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1972 with a bachelor of arts degree in history. According to Danza "Up until the time I came to UD, I thought New York was the norm. The Midwest was a bit of a shock, but a good one. My college experience is one I value, and the University provided not only an academic education but a life education. I made some of my closest friends at UD, and I look back fondly at the four and one-half years - and the summer session - it took me to graduate!"

Following his graduation from UD, Danza was discovered by producer Stu Sheslow at a boxing gymnasium in New York. His discovery led to a starring role in the hit TV comedy series Taxi. His next huge hit was Who's the Boss, which aired for an extraordinary seven seasons. Danza was most recently seen on television playing the role of an attorney on two current dramatic series - CBS's Family Law and ABC's award-winning series The Practice - for which he received an Emmy nomination. He also recently appeared in the Broadway revival of Eugene O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh.

Realizing a personal dream, Danza still performs with his own song and dance show, which he debuted in Atlantic City to sold-out audiences in 1995, and which continues to garner many accolades. The show has played engagements on the legendary Las Vegas strip, at New York's famed Rainbow and Stars as well as many other major venues across the country. In 1998, Danza had the honor of hosting with the national symphony orchestra at "A Capital Fourth," a national Fourth of July concert broadcast live on PBS from the west lawn of the U.S. Capital in front of 400,000 people. The thespian also recently made a stop at New York's famed Carnegie Hall to perform for Skitch Henderson's 80th birthday. In 2001, Danza hosted the "Miss America Pageant" in Atlantic City. He was last seen hosting the 2003 "Peoples Choice Awards" for national television.

The Tony Danza Live! show runs in conjunction with 2004 University of Dubuque Commencement events. Commencement ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 1:00 p.m.in the McCormick Gymnasium on the UD campus. Danza will give the college Commencement address as well as receive an honorary degree during the ceremony.

Tickets for Tony Danza Live! will go on sale April 8, 2004. Tickets may be purchased at the Five Flags Box Office or through Ticketmaster.
