The University of Dubuque softball team captured another sweep on the road by collecting a pair of wins against the UW-Platteville Pioneers on Wednesday afternoon. UD trailed 0-1 entering the seventh inning in game one and battled back for a 2-1 victory. In game two, the Spartans jumped out to an early lead and cruised to an 8-2 win. The two wins earned head coach Wendi Wipperfurth the all-time UD career wins record with her 65th victory in just her fourth season. Previous mark was held by Ted Rebholz (1984-1992) with a career record of 64-212 overall.

The University of Dubuque women’s cross country team placed second at the Wisconsin Lutheran Warrior Invitational in highest finish of the year. Fabiola Ortiz did her thing and led the Spartans with a 3rd place overall finish in 23:05 on a slower, more challenging 6k course.

Senior Meggie Schmidt converted eight free throws combined in final minute in pair of close wins last week for the University of Dubuque women’s basketball team while freshman Deshond Robinson won his first career 400 meters (51.22) at the Monmouth Invite as both earned Iowa Conference Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Female Athlete of the Week and Male Track Performer of the Week honors, respectively.

Emily Brinker came off the bench and erupted for 29 points in 35 minutes in a pair of wins for the University of Dubuque women’s basketball team while Ernest Winters claimed his second 60 meter dash victory of the year as the University of Dubuque men’s track & field team won the Cornell Hilltop Invite. Both Brinker and Winters garnered UD’s third straight Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Female Athlete of the Week and Male Track Performer of the Week, respectively.

The University of Dubuque softball team fell short in the two-game sweep on Monday afternoon. The Spartans used a late rally in game one to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take their first lead en route to a 4-3 victory for relief pitcher Amanda Williams over the visiting UW-Platteville Pioneers. UD led early in game two before the Pioneers scored three runs in the top of the sixth to stretch their lead to 6-4. The Spartans were held to a single run in the seventh to end their chances for another late run, losing by a 5-6 mark.
