UD Men’s Tennis Named 2013 ITA All-Academic Team

The University of Dubuque Men’s Tennis team was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award winner. The Spartans were one of 40 Division III teams to earn the award on the men’s side for the 2012-13 academic year. In addition, five Spartan student-athletes earned the honor of ITA Scholar-Athlete.

Men's Tennis Set for IIAC Individual Championships

The University of Dubuque Men's Tennis team is set to compete at the 2013 Iowa Conference Individual Tournament on Friday, September 20th and Saturday, September 21st. The 2013 championships are hosted by Central College.

Spartans Lose to Alum Stewart

The University of Dubuque Men's Tennis team began the 2014 season on Saturday morning inside the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center. UD lost 5-4 to former Spartan Austin Stewart and his St. Ambrose team in Head Coach Claudio Giraldi's first match at the helm. Nick Garcia and Nikolay Gospodinov went 2-0 on the day.

Garcia Claims IIAC Performer of the Week Honors

University of Dubuque senior Nick Garcia was named IIAC Men's Tennis Performer of the Week. Garcia went 4-0 on the week at #1 Singles and #1 Doubles as UD went 1-1 as a team. He extended his winning streak at #1 Singles to five games and ten sets with 6-4, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1 wins on Saturday at Knox. In doubles play, he teamed with Dishon Deering to win 8-5 vs. Ripon and 8-6 vs. Knox.

The University of Dubuque men's tennis kicked off their 2015 season with a triangular with strong competition against Edgewood College and Grandview University on Saturday, Feb. 7 in Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center. The Spartans dropped the opening match to Edgewood 1-8 and were swept by Grandview 0-9.

The University of Dubuque men's tennis would split duals on Saturday, losing the opener to Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) by a 3-6 margin before volleying back to capture the second dual 7-2 over Ripon College. The Spartans are 2-3 overall this early season.

The University of Dubuque men's tennis battled for over four hours and lost the fight in their Iowa Conference opener to Wartburg College 3-6. UD fell short in two out of three doubles in extra points and lost two singles matches in a third tie break set. The Spartans bounced back in the night cap seinging past Knox College 6-3 to improve to 3-5 overall.

The number one doubles team of Matthew Sablay and Ranfer Hernandez collected the University of Dubuque men's tennis team lone win in a 8-1 defeat to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday morning. The Spartans also dropped a thrilling 5-hour match to Lawrence University, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon.

The University of Dubuque men's tennis team entered Tuesday's match with a tough opponent looming in league play. The #36-ranked Coe College Kohawks (16-4 overall, 5-0 in IIAC) made the short drive to Dubuque and quick work of the Spartans, taking the match 8-1. UD's Ranfer Hernandez playing #4 singles def. Matt Moore 2-6, 6-1, 12-10 for the lone Spartan victory. He improved to 11-6 overall in singles play.

Spartans Tennis Drop Match to Beavers

The University of Dubuque men's tennis team entered Saturday with high hopes of inching their way closer into the IIAC Tournament berth with a much needed conference victory, but the visiting Buena Vista University Beavers held the same thoughts. The match would teter on the final match of the afternoon between UD's Jordan Hamling and BV's Robby Steffes. Hamling captured the first set 6-1 before losing the second set 3-6. A third tie break set would be for the match and Steffes took the third, 6-2 and ending the Spartans afternoon in defeat 4-5.

The University of Dubuque men's tennis team fought through blustery windy conditions at Frank Farber Tennis Courts on Wednesday in an Iowa Conference tilt with the Luther College Norse. The Spartans lost to the Norse 1-8 and dropped to 6-13 overall and 2-4 in the IIAC.

Spartans Men's Tennis Keep Duhawks Winless in 2015

The University of Dubuque men's tennis team didn't need the victory on Wednesday afternoon to qualify for the 2015 IIAC Men's Tennis Team Tournament, they already had secured a qualifying spot locked up. The Spartans kept the visiting Loras College Duahwks winless in 2015 with a dominating 8-1 victory on Frank Farber Tennis Courts.
