Spartans to Host Track and Field Academy

The University of Dubuque will be hosting a Track and Field Academy for interested student-athletes looking to prepare for their upcoming track seasons. The University of Dubuque Track and Field Academy will be held on Sunday, January 18 and on Sunday, January 25, 2015. The cost is $110 per person with a group discount of $15 off when you sign up with two or more teammates.

The University of Dubuque will host the annual Solomon W. Butler Classic Track and Field Meet on January 17 on A.Y. McDonald Indoor Track in the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center. Teams scheduled to compete are: the University of Dubuque, Augustana College, Carroll University, Clarke University, Coe College, Cornell College, Loras College, Monmouth College, North Iowa Area Community College, Southwestern Community College, and William Penn University.

Kazmierczak’s Pole Vault Championship Highlights Day One of IIAC Championships

Sophomore Nicholas Kazmierczak grabbed the University of Dubuque men’s track and field team’s second-straight Iowa Conference indoor pole vault championship at Wartburg on Friday with a vault of 14’4.75”. The fab freshman team Ernest Winters, Joseph Miggins, Hurshel Ross, and Deshond Robinson captured the Spartans second IIAC title with a school and facility record in the 4x200m relay (1:29.19).

McKenzie Defends Triple Jump Title as Spartans Take Third at IIAC Championships

Senior Nikki McKenzie won the triple jump for the second straight year with a leap of 36'2.75" and earned fifth place in the long jump amidst a plethora of runner-up performances by the University of Dubuque women’s track team. UD’s performances helped push the Spartans to a third-place finish at the Iowa Conference Indoor Championships (hosted by Wartburg).

Track and Field Improve Rankings

The penultimate computer rankings of the 2015 NCAA Division III indoor track & field season featured a familiar set of schools at the top, some minor reshuffling in the middle, and new faces at the bottom. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the rankings on Tuesday, March 3. The University of Dubuque men's and women's team moved up the rankings after strong performances in the 2015 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. The Spartans ranked 33rd in last rankings, leapt to #19 in the nation for the men's program highest ranking in school history.

Spartans Qualify for the 106th Annual Drake Relays

The 106th Annual Drake Relays is set to begin this week and the University of Dubuque men's and women's teams will be represented in one of the nations most prestigious track and field events. The Drake Relays begins on April 22 and will finish up on April 26 at Drake Stadium, ticket offices will open one hour prior to the start of each session. The women's team qualified two relays, the 4x100 and the 4x200, while UD's men's team qualified the returning NCAA National Division III Outdoor Champion, Rick Valcin, in the pole vault and Ernest Winters in the 100 meter dash, and the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.

Free admission on Thursday and $6 for adults and $3 for student on Friday and Saturday. Ticket gates open at noon on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. In the 2015 IIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships the Spartans women and men teams both placed third.

UD to Host 17th Annual Senior All-Star Spotlight Track and Field Meet

The University of Dubuque and will be the host site to the 17th Annual Senior All-Star Spotlight Track and Field Meet. The Senior Spotlight meet, also known as the Senior "All-Star" meet, brings together the top high school senior track and field student-athletes from Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin to compete head to head. This two-day event has been promoting great competition and camaraderie to the high school student-athletes in a college atmosphere since 1999.
