The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team faced a tough challenege on Friday night on the road at Division I Drake University. The Spartans were unable to slow the Bulldog offense in the 98-59 defeat. Jessica Goetz and Jenna Kotas led Dubuque on offense with 15 points each. UD is coming off a 2012-13 season in which they won a school record 20 games and advanced to the finals of the Iowa Conference Tournament.

The Spartans lost the high scoring affair with UW-Platteville, 81-78. Jenna Kotas led four Spartans in double figures with 20 points. UD led 40-35 at the half.

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team scored the highest point total since Coach Mark Noll took over the program in 2007. The Spartans 90-83 victory over Edgewood College (0-2) marked the most points scored since UD scored 100 points against Mt. Mary College on November 30, 2006. Freshman Emily Brinker led Dubuque with 18 points as 16 different Spartans scored in the contest.

UD pushed the tempo early and did not look back as they beat Bethany Lutheran 110-81 on Saturday afternoon inside the Stoltz Sports Center. The Spartans were led offensively by Jenna Kotas with 21 points. Dubuque improved to 2-1 on the year.

The Spartans tied the school record for points scored in a game with 110 last week and broke the record tonight with a 112-89 victory over the Blackburn College Beavers.

For the third time this season the Spartans have upped the school record for points in a game. The Spartans 127-57 victory against North Central University (Minn) was a total team effort with 17 Spartans scoring and 20 seeing court time. UD improves to 4-3 on the year and scored over 100 for the third time this year.

The Spartans went toe-to-toe with NCC in route to a 124-99 victory. UD topped 100+ points for the fourth time this season as seven Spartans finished in double figures.

The nearly 60 degree difference in temperatue between Dubuque and St. Pete did not effect the Spartans as they beat Eureka 105-79 in their first game of the Basketball Destinations St. Pete Classic. UD finished the game shooting 50.0% (41-82) from the field. Dubuque improves to 6-3 overall and won their third game.

The Spartans extended their winning streak to four games with a 82-69 victory against Alverno College on Saturday afternoon. Junior Jenna Kotas paced UD with 21 points including six three-pointers. Dubuque moves to 7-3 overall.

Kotas averaged 22.5 points per game while averaging 23.0 minutes per game in two UD victories at the Basketball Destinations St. Pete Classic. Dubuque has won four straight games and is second in Division-III with 94.5 points per game.

The Spartans led throughout the game before a jumper by Simpson at the buzzer made the score 55-54. In her first start of the year, Meggie Schmidt scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Dubuque is 11-7 overall and tied for fourth in the Iowa Conference at 4-3.

The Spartans 57-51 victory on Jon Davison Court inside Stoltz Sports Center was the first loss of the conference season for Loras. The UD starters accounted for 53 points with Jenna Kotas leading the way with 18 points. UD held Loras scoreless for the final 4:13.

As a result of the Spartans 85-78 win and losses by Coe and Simpon, UD is now tied for second place in the Iowa Conference with one game remaining in the regular season. Jenna Kotas once again paced the Dubuque offense with 19 points, her 12th straight game as the leading scorer.

The Spartans 83-76 victory over Luther on Saturday afternoon helped UD to a program best second place finish in the Iowa Conference (IIAC). UD was lights out from the free throw line, shooting a season best 87.1% (27-31) from the charity stripe including making 14 straight the end the game.

The Spartans 63-59 loss to Buena Vista on Tuesday night proved the old saying that the hardest thing in sports to do is beat a team three times in a season. Jenna Kotas recorded a double-double, scoring 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. UD finishes the year with a 17-9 overall record.

University of Dubuque Women's Basetball student-athletes Jenna Kotas and Jessica Goetz each earned All-Iowa Conference (IIAC) honors as voted by the leagues coaches. Kotas was named to the First Team while Goetz earned Second Team recognition. The Spartans finished the season with an overall record of 17-9 and tied for second place in the IIAC at 10-4. The second place finish was the best in the programs history.

The good news, they return six of their top returning scorers and 91.1% of their rebounds for a team that qualified for their fifth straight IIAC Tournament. Absent are a pair of six-footers who anchored the defensive front and leaves them with one of the smallest groups Coach Mark Noll’s ever had.

The University of Dubuque Spartans opened the 2014 UD Tip-Off Classic with a 94-75 victory. In the Nightcap UW-Platteville rallied back to capture the contest over the Loras College Duhawks 70-67. Loras captured a 99-71 victory on Sunday over Edgewood and UW-Platteville edged out the Spartans 82-75.

The University of Dubuque women's basketball team showed no slow down after Thanksgiving by edging out the Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties in the opening game of the 2014 UW-Stout Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout Tournament by a narrow 78-76 margin. The Gusties made the finish exciting for the fans, trailing by four points, they connected on a three point shot with 10 seconds left of the game. A quick foul sent the Spartans Jenna Kotas to the line for a pair of freethrows. She would miss the first and sink the second attempt to give the Spartans the 78-76 lead. An attempt by the Gusties as time expired missed it's mark and the Spartans captured their third victory of the season and handed Gustavus their first loss of the season.

The University of Dubuque women's basketball team continue to evolve and improve into a team which looks much different from what Spartan fans watched last season. What the Spartans lack in height has been more than balanced with quickness from a strong core of seniors and underclassmen. Competing in the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout this weekend, Coach Mark Noll and assistant Kelsey Steinhagen returned to their alma mater and ran away with the championship title. The Spartans were held in check at the start of the championship game, but began to open up their lead by 15 points at halftime. UD sprinted out in the second half and led by as many as 27 points en route to cruising to an 87-62 dominating win against the host UW-Stout Blue Devils Sunday afternoon.
