Softball to Host Spartan Winter Softball Camps

The University of Dubuque softball team will be hosting their annual softball camps for grades 9-12 in the newly completed Veterans Memorial Training Center on Nov. 9, Dec. 14, Jan. 11, and Feb. 15. Cost for the various camps will be $30 each.

The University of Dubuque softball team will continue their early season play under the warm confines of a dome this weekend. UD will play in the Rochester Dome Softball Tourney in Rochester, Minn. on Friday, March 6 and Saturday March 7.

Gerace’s Grand Slam Leads to Rout of St. Olaf

Kelli Gerace’s first grand slam of the year aided a seven-run third inning that allowed the University of Dubuque softball team to run away from St. Olaf in a five-inning affair, 12-1, on Friday afternoon. In the nightcap, the Spartans mustered one hit and two unearned runs in a 7-2 loss to UW-La Crosse.

Spartans Rebound With Dominant Victory over UW-River Falls

Despite limiting UW-La Crosse to four hits, the University of Dubuque softball team couldn't overcome 4-1 deficit and fall to the Eagles, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon. In the nightcap, the offensive breaks out for 10 runs on 10 hits in 10-1 rout of UW-River Falls in the Spartans final game of the weekend at the Rochester Dome Games hosted by Luther.

Softball Splits Against St. Scholastica

The University of Dubuque softball team earned a split on Saturday against the College of St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.). It was a tale of two games with the Spartans losing the opening game 0-9 in five innings before rallying in the second game and capturing the victory 11-2.

Softball Swept by Gustavus Adolphus, Prepare for IIAC Opener

The University of Dubuque softball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday to Gustavus Adolphus College, losing the first game 4-8 and the second game by 6-14. The Spartans fall to 8-12 overall and prepare to open Iowa Conference action at home on Tuesday, March 31.

Softball Sweeps Wartburg in Conference Opener

The University of Dubuque softball team captured the sweep of Wartburg College Knights on Tuesday afternoon, winning the opener in a thrilling bottom of the seventh victory 3-2 and capturing the second game in a 8-6 victory. The Spartans improve to 2-0 in Iowa Conference play and will continue their IIAC season on Thursday when they host Loras College Duhawks in the Strike Out Cancer series beginning at 3:00 p.m. on April 2. Last season the two teams joined forces and raised over $1,300 for the local American Cancer Society.

The University of Dubuque and Loras College softball teams joined forces for National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) StrikeOut Cancer game on Thursday and raised over $1,600 for the local American Cancer Society. The two schools would split the series with UD capturing game one by a 12-9 score before the Duhawks rallied to take game two by a 10-2 margin in five innings.

Softball Splits with #13-Ranked Central Dutch

The University of Dubuque captured a split against #13-ranked Central College Dutch on Friday afternoon. The contest originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, was postponed due to inclement weather the past two days in Iowa. The Spartans captured the opener 3-1 and lost the nightcap 3-8. A short rest and the Spartans return home to host the Buena Vista University Beavers on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Softball Returns Home to Split Against BVU

The University of Dubuque softball team returned home on Saturday and captured a split with the Buena Vista University Beavers (13-14 overall, 4-4 in IIAC). The Spartans lost the opener when they allowed four runs to score in the first two innings on four hits. BVU held on to a 4-1 victory. UD once again fell behind early in the second game of the doubleheader by a 3-0 score after the first inning. UD added a run in the second and took the lead in the fifth when they scored three runs on four hits. BVU threatened at the top of the seventh with two runners on and one out until they hit into a doubleplay to stop any chance they had with the final score 4-3 in favor of the Spartans.

The University of Dubuque softball team continued their busy week of eight games in seven days and faced a top contender in #13-ranked UW-Whitewater on their home field on Thursday. UD scored first in game one, but the hosts Warhawks pecked their way back into the game winning 8-1. In the nightcap, the Spartans trailed 2-5 after the top of the sixth when Meggie Schmidt launched a two RBI homerun. The hosts would score four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the victory to 9-2 in favor of UW-Whitewater.

Spartans Stopped by Kohawks in Doubleheader

The University of Dubuque softball team would like to start the week over, it was a busy eight days where they played 10 games and finished with a 3-7 record over the span. UD dropped a pair of games on Saturday at Coe, losing the first by a 2-6 margin and dropping the second by a 1-5 mark. The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, April 21 when they host the Simpson College Storm on Senior Day.

The University of Dubuque softball needed a sweep of the Simpson College Storm on Tuesday to clinch an IIAC Tournament berth. Unfortunately it was the Storm who blew into Dubuque and clinched after winning game one by an 8-3 score and sneaking out with a game two 7-5 victory when the Spartans left the bases loaded in the bottom of seventh inning.

The University of Dubuque softball team was held to a total of nine hits in a doubleheader loss to the Cornell College Rams om Wednesday. UD lost the first game by a 0-8 score in five innings and dropped the second game by a 3-7 mark.

Softball Earns Berth and #6-Seed Into IIAC Tourney

The University of Dubuque Spartans may have dropped their final two games of the conference regular season on Sunday to #4-ranked Luther College Norse (34-2 overall, 12-0), but the Spartans ended the afternoon with the #6 seed and the final berth into the 2015 IIAC Softball Tournament on May 1-2.

Spartans Softball Open IIAC Tourney with Victory

The University of Dubuque softball team opened the IIAC Softball Tournament with a 7-3 victory over the #3 Simpson College Storm on Friday afternoon. The Storm were ranked #2 in the Midwest Region of the NCAA National Softball Rankings released on April 30. The Spartans opponents don't get any easier in the semifinal round where they will play the #2-seed, the Central College Dutch, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Dutch are ranked #3 in the Midwest Region of the NCAA National Softball Rankings.

Softball Out Hit Dutch, Errors Prove Costly in Tourney Semifinals

The University of Dubuque softball team out hit the Central College Dutch in the 2015 IIAC Softball Tournament on Saturday, but five errors proved costly for the Spartans in a 1-7 loss to end their season.

Softball’s Schmidt and Smith Score First-Team All-IIAC Honors, Loes Named to Second Team

Senior utility player, Meggie Schmidt, and outfielder, Andrea Smith, garnered First Team All-Iowa Conference honors, while pitcher Megan Loes was a Second-Team All-IIAC selection after leading Spartan softball to its third straight Iowa Conference Tournament berth.

UD's Woltz Earn Capital One Academic All-District® Softball Honors

The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District® Baseball and Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The University of Dubuque's Victoria Woltz (Jr., 1B, Wykoff, Minn./Chatfield HS) earned First-team Academic All-District ® honors in softball. ​
